Inside the Sagrada Família, the branching columns and coloured light are the reason to visit. Reserve a morning entry through the basilica’s website. Have lunch nearby, then travel north to Park Güell for the afternoon.

Walk the mosaic terrace, curved benches and paths above Barcelona. The ticketed area needs its own entry time; leave the Sagrada Família for the morning and take public transport or a taxi between the two.

From the cathedral, walk through Plaça del Rei and Plaça Sant Jaume, then loop back along the old streets towards Els Quatre Gats for lunch. The afternoon continues east into El Born.

Stop for lunch at Els Quatre Gats on Carrer de Montsió, known for its Modernista dining room and connection with Picasso. Afterwards, cross Via Laietana and walk through El Born to Santa Maria del Mar.

After lunch, cross into El Born and visit the Gothic basilica on Plaça de Santa Maria. Its open nave and slender stone columns are the main draw. Continue along Passeig del Born and the small shopping streets around it.

Start at La Boqueria for produce stalls, food counters and a morning snack. The market sits just off La Rambla, making it a convenient beginning before choosing a garden walk or the waterfront.

For an afternoon on Montjuïc, walk Laribal’s terraced paths and fountains. Take transport up from the centre and back down to Barceloneta for dinner. A beach afternoon is the simpler alternative if you prefer to stay near the waterfront.

Can Majó is a seafood restaurant near Barceloneta’s beach, a lunch or dinner option for the waterfront part of the day. Walk the promenade afterwards.
