Bremen at Christmas: A 2-Day Weekend

Destination: Bremen, GermanyCreated by: Moo_The_TrotterLast updated: 13th October 2026
Bremen’s Christmas stalls fill the market square and continue along the Weser. Two days pair those evening visits with the town hall, the narrow Schnoor streets and a museum, all within a compact city centre.

Image of Rathaus

Rathaus

Attraction, Core Attraction
Start on Marktplatz, where the Christmas market runs from 23 November to 23 December 2026. The Town Musicians statue stands beside the town hall; book a guided tour if you want to see the Renaissance interior.
Image of Roland

Roland

Attraction, Core Attraction
The sword-bearing Roland faces the cathedral across the market square. Find him beside the town hall before browsing the stalls; this is part of the same stop, not a separate excursion.

Saint Peter's Cathedral

Place of Worship, History Landmark
Step inside St Peter’s for a quieter break from the market square. The nave is the main visit here; the Christmas stalls and illuminated façade are worth returning to after dark.
Image of Böttcherstraße

Böttcherstraße

Attraction, Core Attraction
Walk through this short brick-built lane between the market square and river. Look up at the carved façades, then browse the small shops; the Paula Modersohn-Becker Museum is an optional longer stop.

Schnoor

Attraction, Core Attraction
Leave the broad squares for the narrow lanes of Schnoor. Wander between the little houses and independent shops, then find lunch before returning to the river.

Schlachte

Attraction, Core Attraction
Finish beside the Weser at Schlachte-Zauber, the waterfront Christmas market, running 23 November–23 December 2026. Its maritime stalls and lights make a different evening from the market around the town hall.

Day 2 — Museums and green spaces

Day 2 — Museums and green spaces

Übersee-Museum

Museum
Choose this for natural history and cultures from around the world, especially with children. It is beside the main station, so it also works before a train home; art lovers can choose the Kunsthalle instead.

Mühle am Wall

Historic Site
The windmill is an easy landmark on the walk from the station towards the old town. See it from the park paths rather than planning a separate indoor visit.
Image of Kunsthalle Bremen

Kunsthalle Bremen

Art Gallery
Choose the Kunsthalle for European painting and changing exhibitions. Make this your main indoor visit if you prefer art to the Übersee-Museum, then return to the centre for another evening among the stalls.
Image of Wallanlagen

Wallanlagen

Park
Follow a stretch of the former city ramparts between the windmill and Kunsthalle. The park gives the day a short outdoor break without taking you far from the old town.
Image of Bürgerpark Bremen

Bürgerpark Bremen

Park
An optional longer walk north of the station for a dry afternoon. Stay with Wallanlagen if you would rather spend the remaining daylight in the centre; there is no need to fit in both parks.

Paula-Modersohn-Becker-Museum

Museum, Museum Gallery
Add this small museum while exploring Böttcherstraße if you enjoy early modern painting. It is a more compact art stop than the Kunsthalle and fits naturally into the first day.

Focke-Museum

Museum, History Museum
A family alternative outside the centre: the PLAYMOBIL city-history exhibition runs in Haus Riensberg and Eichenhof through December 2027, Thursday–Sunday. The main museum and study collection are closed for redevelopment.
