Day 1 — City centre

Leeds City Museum

Museum, History Museum
Start with the Leeds Story gallery for the city’s industrial past; the wider collections range from archaeology to natural history.

Leeds Art Gallery

Art Gallery
British painting and sculpture make this the main art stop. The tiled hall is worth seeing too, even if you only want a short gallery visit.
Image of Leeds Town Hall

Leeds Town Hall

Building, Core Attraction
An exterior stop beside the gallery: the tower and columns show the scale of Victorian Leeds. The building is closed for refurbishment, with reopening expected in 2027.

Leeds Kirkgate Market

Farmers Market
Make this the Saturday lunch stop: browse the food stalls beneath the iron-and-glass roof, then walk south to the Corn Exchange. The market is closed on Sundays.

Retail, Core Attraction
Step inside for the oval hall and independent shops beneath its domed roof. It is a short walk from the market and a good end to the city-centre route.

Royal Armouries Museum

Museum, History Museum
Make this the main visit of the day: the collection covers arms and armour from across the world. Afterwards, step straight out onto Leeds Dock for the waterfront walk.

Minster Church of St-Peter-at-Leeds

Place of Worship, History Landmark
Leeds Minster stands beside the old parish streets, just north of the river. Make it a short architectural stop between the Armouries and the waterfront.

Leeds Waterfront

Historic Site
Follow the River Aire west towards Granary Wharf, passing the bridges and converted warehouses. This is the walking link between the day’s sights, rather than another long attraction visit.

Granary Wharf

Public Plaza
Finish beside the canal basin, where waterside terraces sit below the railway arches. Leeds station is next door, making this an easy last stop before the journey home.

Optional extras

Optional extras
Image of Roundhay Park

Roundhay Park

Park
Swap this in for a longer spell outdoors. The lakes and woodland lie northeast of the centre, so make it a separate outing by bus rather than an extension of the waterfront walk.
Image of Kirkstall Abbey

Kirkstall Abbey

Monument
Choose the ruined medieval abbey for a quieter half-day northwest of the centre. Combine the ruins with a riverside walk; travel out by bus rather than walking the whole way from town.
Image of Middleton Park

Middleton Park

Park, Park Nature
A southern alternative for woodland paths and a break from city streets. Pick this or Roundhay for a park outing; there is no need to fit both into a weekend.
