Day 1 — Porto

São Bento Railway Station

Historic Site
São Bento’s entrance hall is lined with blue-and-white tiles showing scenes from Portuguese history. Walk inside to see the panels, then follow Rua dos Clérigos west to the tower.

Climb Clérigos Tower for a view over Porto’s roofs and the Douro. Afterwards, walk downhill through Rua das Flores towards Palácio da Bolsa, with lunch in the streets along the way.

The former stock exchange is a visit for ceremonial interiors, especially the decorated Arab Room. Join a palace tour before heading down to Ribeira, keeping the rest of the afternoon for the waterfront.

Walk Cais da Ribeira along the Douro, then turn into the lanes behind the quay and Praça da Ribeira. This is the evening for a riverside drink and dinner in the old centre, with Gaia’s cellars across the water.

Start the second day at Porto Cathedral above the river. Its terrace gives a clear view of the old town’s hills; from here, walk towards the upper deck of Luís I Bridge.

Cross the upper deck from the cathedral side for the view along the Douro. In Gaia, descend to the waterfront for lunch and a cellar visit, returning uphill to Jardim do Morro later.

A guided cellar visit and tasting explains port wine where it is stored beside the Douro. Have lunch on the Gaia waterfront beforehand, then spend the afternoon at this lodge.

Finish above Gaia’s waterfront at Jardim do Morro for the view back across the bridge to Porto. It makes a good evening stop after the cellar visit, before crossing into the old town for dinner.
